Why Our Speakers Are Different

We know there are lots of great speakers out there already and if you’re going to compete, you have to bring something different. So, what makes us different? First is our exclusive Compression Guide Technology (C.G.T.). C.G.T. is a major advance in speaker tuning, which literally pulls sound out of the speakers and brings it to life in front of you. Second is our direct pricing. We have no expensive stores and by eliminating dealer and middlemen profit, the savings to you are enormous. Third, is our 40-year reputation for designing and manufacturing great-sounding speakers that are built to last.

CG Stereo System Advantages

In the CG Stereo System, our patented C.G.T. enables two small CG4 speakers to be easily placed and produce sound that is actually larger than many floor-standing speakers.C.G.T. results in clearer imaging and forms a life-like soundstage in your room making each instrument clearly distinguishable. The bass is handled by our Speedwoofer 10, which blends perfectly with the CG4s picking up precisely where they leave off. The Speedwoofer’s C.G.T. produces smoother, faster bass with plenty of available power. You’ll never be able to tell that there’s a separate subwoofer.

A Superior Approach to Traditional Speakers

Our 2.1 system approach (using a separate subwoofer) offers huge advantages over traditional floor-standing speakers. The compact satellite speakers can be easily placed for ideal imaging, while the subwoofer can be positioned for the best bass distribution. Traditional speakers bundle the woofer, midrange, and tweeter in one cabinet forcing you to choose a location that compromises either bass or imaging. Also, with the Speedwoofer 10’s wireless remote control, you can dial in the exact amount of bass for your taste or the source you are listening to.

All speakers feature the finest parts including stylish, high-gloss black piano finish enclosures.

Buy With Total Peace of Mind

You’ve read why we feel our speakers are the best value. Now it’s time to convince yourself with our risk-free guarantee. If for any reason, you’re not completely 100% satisfied, send them back for a full refund. We’ll even cover the return shipping and you’ll never have to worry about restocking fees. Now that’s peace of mind.

Compact Speaker Reviews

By Mark Fleischmann, Home Theater Magazine • Posted: Dec 29, 2011

“The RSL CG4 and CG24 made a gratifying first impression that never wavered as they journeyed through content with the unflappability of an experienced traveler. They were coherent from top to bottom”

“The balance among midbass, midrange, upper midrange, and high frequencies was everything one could hope for.”

“Bass integration between satellites and sub was seamless.”

“…..the RSL system delivered the goods with as little listening fatigue as I’ve ever had with any high-resolution speakers delivering a noisy movie.”

“It was hard to believe I was listening to loudspeakers driven by an amplifier.”

“I fell in love with it from the first moments I listened to it.”

“…a product can achieve a five-star performance rating only if it is “reference quality.” This speaker handily qualifies.”

“It got the best out of everything I used to audition it. Wow, wow, and wow again.”

“…the price/performance ration for these compact speakers sold direct on the Internet is through the roof.”

Tested: RSL Speaker Systems 5.1 Theater System

The SoCal speaker kings are back — and performing above their size and price point once again

By Daniel Kumin, Sound & Vision Magazine | Posted September 20, 2011

“The RSL sats sounded tight and honest.”

“The CG4 was accurate and well defined on voices and instruments, without any distinct coloration or bias. I found its sound to be open, crisp, and perhaps just the tiniest shade “forward” over the top octaves, but still even and unforced, making for an airy, detailed presentation.”

“I was halfway through Harry Brown’s credits before I realized that the RSL system had simply delivered the cinema-sound goods, left, right, and center (and surround).”

“Whatever I played, the system continued to deliver clarity and unforced detail.”

“Listening to the Corigliano (and other music) in surround proved satisfying, too. The surround-channel CG4s did not “flashlight” ambient sounds, while the front pair locked up with the center CG24 to form a truly seamless front stage.”

“RSL has a very, very good small speaker system here. …..it performs, without fuss, at a level higher than most at this price point. disregard physical size; for this kind of performance, it’s a bargain.”

PRODUCT REVIEW: RSL COMPRESSION GUIDE SPEAKERS

AFTER TWO DECADES, THE NEW RSL CG SPEAKERS COME WITH A SURPRISE IN EVERY BOX

January 14, 2011 By Home Entertainment Editorial Staff - Mark Elson

“I was able to pick up subtleties I had not previously heard. If speakers are windows into the music, these windows were squeaky-clean.”

“James Taylor was present in the room with his characteristic vocal insinuations, accents and humor intact... outside the box.”

“with the RSL CG24 Studio Monitor, the ground rules of performance versus price are about to change.”

“At no time was the sound fatiguing nor was there any smear or lack of definition among all those layered sounds coming from the CG system.”

“All in all, this was pretty amazing performance from a $750 subwoofer (RSL Speedwoofer 10).”

“The system imaged wider than anyone had a right to expect, including vertically.”

“the Rogersound Labs Compression Guide speakers represent the same outstanding value and performance that they did decades earlier.”

Hands On: RSL Compression Guide Speakers

An old speaker company is reborn.

April 14, 2011 | by Grant Clauser, Electronic House Magazine

“The RSLs created a very rich, three-dimensional soundstage that seemed larger than such small speakers should be able produce.”

“On movie soundtracks, the system also performed well. Once again I was impressed with the fullness of the presentation.”

“After spending a couple of weeks tossing a wide variety of music and movies through the speakers, I packed them up very impressed with what a $2,075 sub/sat system could deliver.”

Compression Guide (CG) Stereo System

Reviewed by Michael Wechsberg, Positive Feedback

"The first thing I noticed when I sat down for serious listening was that the speakers completely disappeared. This fundamental and sought-after characteristic of all music systems is hard to achieve, especially at this price range and often at much higher price ranges.”

“The speakers threw a wide and deep image with great definition throughout the soundstage. This has always been an advantage of small satellites but often falls apart when the subwoofer is added. Not so with the RSLs.”

“Vocal music, both male and female, was full with plenty of midrange detail.”

“I played some big symphony works and they sounded wonderful from the deepest bass to the highest highs. The system was especially good at portraying hall acoustics faithfully. I was very conscious of the acoustics in the silent spaces between cuts or movements.”

“But the best thing about this speaker system is the way music literally leapt out of the speakers. Its not that they had an exaggerated front and center perspective but the timing and pace of the music were so palpable it was hard to sit still. I found myself playing the RSLs much louder than I usually listen because the music just didn't want to stay inside the speakers. It wanted to come outside and boogie. At the same time slow and quiet songs and movements drew you inside to enjoy the terrific detail.”

“I really believe the star of the RSL CG system is the Speedwoofer™ 10. Once properly set up it delivered strong, deep and dynamic bass with truly excellent detail. In my main system I use a subwoofer that costs 3 times the RSL yet does not go as deep with the same level of detail.”

“RSL gets "it", that listening to music should be fun and you will have fun with these speakers.”

“Even if you are willing to spend twice as much you should listen to the CG Stereo System.”

“You are sure to enjoy all your old recordings more than ever before.”

The CG4 satellites and the Speedwoofer 10 are very well matched and they do play loud but they also play very well soft. The imaging with the tiny satellites is very clear without resorting to exotic cabinet shapes and there is a smooth sweetness to the high end. I have had a pair of RSL Studio Monitor 3600 speakers and still have a pair of RSL CG-8 squared tower speakers (over 100 lbs. each) and this new set presents a very similar sound to both of them. The traditional clean, open, accurate, RSL sound that made RSL's so popular as studio monitors in the 80's is still there. These speakers could be combined with vintage RSL speakers in a theater setup and blend right in. The difference is that these speakers are much easier to find space for in the living room and these speakers are even more clean, open, and accurate than the compression guide speakers of the 90's. The impression of there being a speaker box is also reduced even more. As for other speakers, try them out and compare them to other speakers costing $8,000 a pair as I have and you will not be disappointed. With the money saved you can buy better electronics and more music. Yes, I have recommended them to my friends.

The dialogue in the movies and the lyrics in songs sound amazing. Amazing clarity and balance and in complete harmony with my CG4's.

I've been using the RSL Speaker system for 2 weeks in a recording studio setting. I use the CG4s for stereo imaging and low level listening. I give them a 5-star rating. I also have a pair of the CG24s along with the Speedwoofer 10, which I listen to at higher levels and I give these a 5-star rating. In the past I've never used a sub in my studio for mixing, as I usually get an inaccurate bass transmission when I take the product out of my studio, but with this speaker system it's nice to have the extra bottom when needed. I find it easy and accurate to build my stereo image while mixing and it gives me a very natural listening environment - not over hyped and I'm able to do long hours without ear fatigue. I would also like to add that the remote that comes with the sub controls is very convenient.

I've been listening to, and evaluating the RSL CG4 and RSL Speedwoofer 10 combination for just over a month now. I should mention to start with, that I prefer listening in a nearfield speaker positioning set-up, with as many feet as possible and practical, between the speakers and the wall behind them. I've found that the RSL monitors work especially well with this type of arrangement, revealing an amazingly wide, (and by wide, I mean often several feet outside of each monitors position), and seemingly effortless reproduction of height, and depth, to the back wall. Having said that, one of my preferred tests of how how specifically MUSICAL a speaker's reproduction can be is by playing an early stereo recording. For this, I used jazz saxophonist Art Pepper's 1957 album "Art Pepper Meets the Rhythm Section". This recording has sax imaged at hard left, and piano, bass and drums at hard right, with very little depth imaging. With eyes closed, I had no sense that I was listening to music emanating at left and right speaker face, although that is pretty much what this recording requires the speakers to do. The saxophone sounded open and completely free of coloration, and the other instruments, despite being all crammed together at far right, seemed to float effortlessly, and separately, in space. The Speedwoofer 10 was very impressive here, providing convincing, full bass on the right channel, with no sense of separation between sub and monitors, despite the fact that I have the sub positioned 6 1/2 feet behind the CG4's. BTW, the sub's remote adjustable volume control became instantly addictive with me, and essential.

In the last 30 years I've owned long list of speakers, including the various versions of the Vandersteen 2c's, Tannoy DMT 12 monitors, Magnepan MMG, MG12 and 1.6's, and many others. I can honestly say that the CG4, Speedwoofer 10 combination is giving me the most satisfying musical reproduction I've yet experienced in my home listening situation. Would I rather have the "megabuck" speaker pair and amp combination of my choice, in the huge room of my choice? --Of course, but, like most of us, I live within a real world budget. At under $1500 for the CG4 monitors and subwoofer, I haven't heard anything else available right now at anywhere near the price range that I'd rather listen to. --Overall, I'd give the CG4's and Speedwoofer 10 a 4 1/2 star rating, and 5 stars in it's price range.

I have taken the time to properly break in the speakers and have listened using both the hi-pass and low-pass connection methods. I have put the speakers through their paces, using CDs, SACDs and vinyl of many genres of music, including classical, jazz, rock, heavy metal and even music beyond any category, with and without vocals. I have listened to the speakers in a smaller space and a large room.

Thanks for making a great sounding speaker system for a very affordable price.
