Our New Line

We never actually intended to go public with these speakers. We created them as prototypes for our own home theater surround sound system. When a friend asked if we would consider doing a production run, we found ourselves asking each other “why not?...” read moreA few years later, here we are.

What makes our Speedwoofer a GREAT Subwoofer?

If you can stay awake, you might just find this interesting.

Subwoofers have to move a LOT of air, very very quickly. It’s a tough job – especially considering it has to match up with much smaller woofers in your satellites that have to move very little air. Imagine a city bus trying to catch a Porsche through a winding canyon. Its not gonna be easy.

So to help the subwoofer out, manufacturers give it a powerful “engine”, or amplifier. The added power allows the subwoofer to handle a greater load and play at louder volumes without distorting. Ever hear a subwoofer make that ugly, gurgling sound when your source demands a lot of bass? It’s a common side-effect of an underpowered amplifier being pushed to its limits.

We’ve spared no expense here. Our Speedwoofer comes with a no-nonsense 375 watt class A/B amplifier. Sure, a class D amp would have cost less; but there’s just no substitute for pure class A/B power…We checked.

But power isn’t enough. Any decent subwoofer can play loudly; what about control and precision?

This part’s a bit more complicated. While subwoofers perform, they develop huge amounts of RESONSNCE inside their cabinets.

Resonance causes DISTORTION that wreaks havoc on sound, like kryptonite to Superman. And to add insult to injury, resonance slows subwoofers down making them sloppy; clumsy even. A lagging subwoofer can’t keep up with the woofers in the rest of your speakers. And the difference is noticeable! This is a persistent problem throughout the subwoofer industry.

Here are some symptoms of resonance you may be familiar with:

- Single-Note Bass – when the subwoofer sounds like its just playing the same note over and over again.

- Slop – Bass that’s sloppy or overly boomy, not tight and accurate like in reality.

- a ‘Sore Thumb’ Subwoofer – a subwoofer that stands out– constantly drawing attention to itself, reminding you that its there. Like a model home with a shoddy add-on room; bass from a ‘sore thumb’ subwoofer never blends smoothly with the rest of your sound.
