THE SPEEDWOOFER 10 WITH COMPRESSION GUIDE TECHNOLOGY

THE ULTIMATE SUBWOOFER

Our exclusive Compression Guide gives the Speedwoofer 10 its unrivaled speed. This results in smoother and more accurate bass than people are accustomed to from a subwoofer. The Speedwoofer™ 10 blends effortlessly with the most accurate speakers on the market (including electrostatics). Most of today’s subwoofers localize, which means that they draw attention to themselves. This is due to their sluggish speed. Unlike those, the Speedwoofer 10 is fast enough to sonically disappear. The bass will sound like its coming from the correct spot in your movie or music and not from a subwoofer. You won’t even know there’s a subwoofer until you turn it off. Yet, crank it up and it will shake your entire home.

Check out all of the features. No other subwoofer offers the same level of features and construction quality at our low factory-direct price.

….Exclusive Compression Guide Tuning for dramatically faster and more accurate bass than conventional subwoofers.

….Wireless remote control of volume and crossover frequency; makes getting up to adjust unnecessary.

….Analog class A/B amplifier honest rated at 375 watts for more impact than the common, cheaper class D digital amplifier.

….Separate remote receiver box allows you to place the Speedwoofer out of sight and the remote will still work.

….Rich, high gloss black piano enclosure; finished by hand.

COMPRESSION GUIDE TECHNOLOGY

THE ACE UP OUR SLEEVE

STANDARD SPEAKERS & SUBS

Standard hollow cabinets do not address cabinet resonance. Resonance adds distortion which reduces sound quality. Speakers sound boxy and unnatural. Subwoofers are slower, prone to slop, and lack articulation.

RSL SPEAKERS & SPEEDWOOFERS

Compression Guide reduces cabinet resonance. Sound remains pure and unaltered. Speakers sound natural and life-like. Subwoofers become drastically faster and more articulate. Bass stays tight and clean at all frequencies.

Compression Guide technology is the difference between RSL speakers and all other speakers. It’s the secret behind our award-winning sound. It’s why RSL speakers sound so clear and incredibly realistic. Watch the video below to learn more.

I know you've heard it before, but the Speedwoofer 10 is truly a remarkable sub. I have also been auditioning a PSA S1500 at the same time, and have tried out the SB-2000 and SB-13 Ultra from SVS in the past. While each of those are really good subs, none have provided me the enjoyment of watching movies in my home theater like the Speedwoofer 10. Your choice of amplifier, the woofer size and the technology seem to give the bass more detail, more realism and greater dynamics than the other subs I've heard, and it's addictive. Great job!!

Hi, Just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy my new RSL Speedwoofer 10. It replaces a Klipsch Sub-12HG Synergy Series 12-Inch 300-Watt Subwoofer that I've been using for about the last ten years and is a huge improvement. The low bass is much tighter and cleaner....the Klipsch sub while good is somewhat muddy in comparison.

I promised a second review after the speakers broke in. First , without a doubt heed the warning / suggestions of setting all speaker adjustments on the AVR to flat. One simple example is that my Def Tech’s were more sensitive, had less mid / bass and per the Def Tech manual set to a crossover of around 95. Settings that worked for the Def Tech’s weren’t the best settings for the RSL’s. No two speaker companies are the same, so best to start at flat. Also, I needed to make sure I was using the best of 6 pre-set MACC auto correction settings I had previously saved in the AVR. What worked for the Def Tech’s wasn’t always that great for the RSL’s.

That done and with 30 hours on the speakers I re-ran MACC. After running MACC I like the sound even better. Speakers broke in = better sounding than out of the box and they already sounded great. MACC = smoothed out the bass. Primarily it eliminated some of the bass that was a bit much for my taste. I use either THX Movies or Dolby Prologic II for cinema based sources. Dolby or Neo Music for music as default surround sound settings on the AVR. Never use the gimmicky “Hall, Concert†or similar options. Whatever I select varies by content. The RSL is more revealing of every recording. Cleaner sound, much better definition in the bass. One pro reviewer said the Speedwoofer was the star of the system. For sure it is a great sub, (at a Magnolia I listened to several subs by themselves. The Speedwoofer was better than anything in its price and the equal or close to some $ models). I like the 4’s overall “full†sound. All recordings sound good, but they take the good recordings and make them sound fantastic. One example, I was listening to the DVD Eagles Hell Freezes Over. I heard the strings strum on guitars clearly. Harmony’s and voices were clearer. Cymbals have more zing. my music tastes ranges from classic 60’s rock to Andre Bochelli and jazz too. I wish I had more time to tee them all up!

Basically my goal was to lift the proverbial “veil†off of the speakers releasing a clean, detailed sound. RSL achieved that and I am happy I choose to go with them. They sound great, despite poor placement options that I have no control over. Feel free to combine my first review submitted earlier; edit and post within reason. Thanks again for your support. Hopefully the only time you’ll hear from me is when I need support, and then not very often if ever ! J unless I get 2 more to replace the surrounds.

It did take some time to fully dial in the new receiver settings..and I think that the 30-40 hours of break-in to be on the conservative side, people tend to not have much patience these days but I think it took more like 60 hours to fully break them in? I told you I would probably play with the Sub location, and so far have it by a corner and pointed into it, it's location seems to "disappear" best that way. I was worried that the bass would lag behind like that but it not only doesn't lag, the lows seem to actually come from the satellites! Although the Speedwoofer's price was the hardest for me to swallow, I see now it's what really makes your system really shine, and shine it does! The sound is true, rich, and crystal clear! I was determined to do that comparison with the Martin Logans, but I can't imagine they could be any improvement, so I'm not sure about making the trip. The brackets were of the highest quality, but even though your speaker wire was of freakish weight and thickness, it didn't work for my purpose. The wires don't separate well and I couldn't put a small nail through them without shorting out the receiver, I'm sure that I'll find some use for it? Summing up my experience so far....Wow! I'm thrilled! Listening to previously listened to music for the first time!

How about 2 reviews; one now and one after the speakers break in.

Background on the modest set up. Pioneer Elite AVR, Pioneer Elite Universal Disc player for Movies and DVD Audio concerts, OLD Sony 200 Disc CD changer.

I replaced 15 year old Def Tech Pro Cinema 100 Sub, Center and LR fronts, but keeping the rear surrounds. Room 15x9x21, probably considered on the

"Bright" side. I never had an issue with the Def Tech's when listening to

music, and with nothing to compare to. About 6 years ago my car was a Passat CC with a killer Dynaudio system. It lifted the proverbial "veil"

off the music - crystal clear sound compared to the Def Tech's. because of that I would audition higher end systems with an eye to one day upgrading.

When my sub went the time came to upgrade but I was forced to keep the same small size of speaker and poor placement of the current system. Your Sound and Vision review as one of a dozen I had kept as possible replacements.

Well, that veil has once again been lifted! I can't stop smiling and the speakers have only been playing for 1 hour. Nuances in Madman Across the Water I haven't heard; beautiful and more defined background echoes.

Cleaner cymbals in Out of Eden. The Speedwoofer is FAR FAR FAR superior to the Def Tech. Clean tuneful bass, set at 11. The CG4's and CG24 are seamless and crystal clear. Interestingly I did change some of the AVR settings. Using NEO 6 Music verse a THX setting I was using before.

Changed the AVR crossover to 100 (80 or 100 being the only options). Raised the Fronts by +3.5 DB's and set the center BACK -5.5DB's. the center is positioned at 5' off the ground, the fronts are 1' off the floor; the constraints of the cabinet they are place in. makes no difference as the sound stage is plenty large and there is no speaker localization. I will run MACC room correction after 40 hours (using an old MACC setting now and maybe a reason for the center setting?)

The shipping and packaging was as promised; excellent. Your prompt responses to my early inquiries prior to buying was appreciated and right on. Nothing to say but thanks and highly recommended. 5 stars and they aren't even broken in. I will check back in at 40 hours but can't imagine how much better things can get. After all there are only 5 stars to give!

RSL, I have appreciated my nevada RSL speakers without any problems or decrease in quality for 30 years. So it was a clear and simple decision to purchase 6 CG24s and a Speedwoofer. If your priorities are incomparable durability, a great value, an honest company, and beautiful outstanding music you should purchase an RSL system! Very sincerely, Jerry

The Speedwoofer 10 is rated from 24-180Hz. I found the 375 watts were plenty to drive the Speedwoofer 10 to window rattling levels. With the remote controlled crossover and output level, the Speedwoofer 10 adds the adjustment flexibility to dial in the right amount of low frequencies per recording. It is easy to set and forget but adding or subtracting bass as needed, from the listening position, was a welcomed bonus. As far as I could discern, the subwoofer kept up with the RSL CG4s.

The Speedwoofer was the first RSL speaker that I purchased, and I love it! Its a real quality product that is built to last. It simply blows away my old "HTIB" sub, and has a detailed refinement of sound that is hard to describe. It especially surprises me how well it can render the sound of a kick drum with a low punch that makes me smile every time. It never gets old!

Also, one of the first demo's I tried when I first plugged it in was the good old T-Rex scene from Jurassic Park, on blueray. Not only did it powerfully rattle all the pictures on the wall with T-Rex stomping around, but I could hear detail in the T-Rex throat rumble that I don't remember hearing before. This sub packs a punch! Both on movies and music. And has mated well with any decent satellite spaker I've tried pairing it with. Plus, the remote makes tweaking settings a painless affair. Usually nobody in the room even knows that I'm fiddling with the sub to satisfy my OCD moments. Very handy!

It's been quite a while since I email you the last time, anyway as promised I think it's about time I share with you on my review of this 5.1 system. First and foremost on the whole this 5.1 system is one of the best home theater system I have come across for a long time. In fact I have listened to quite a lot of brand but nothing give me the kind of crisp clear, airy and dynamics sound like this one. Secondly the synergy between the speedwoofer and the rest of the speaker is second to none. Lastly is the sheer power and swiftness of the speedwoofer working together with the five speakers are really exhilirating and this really draws you into the movies and make it very immersive.

One last thing which I like to mention is the speedwoofer separate remote receiver box is very convenience and easy to adjust during the on going movies. All in all this is really a great and fantastic 5.1 system and I hope RSL will come up with more great products in the near future and I am looking forward to it. Keep it up.

So my friends and I watched the Matrix... and it blew everyone's socks off! absolutely amazing sound. Throughout the gunfight in the lobby scene you could hear every last piece of granite hitting the floor while the action roars on screen, everything was spectacularly clear. The iconic slow motion bullet dodge scene was incredibly realistic sounding, as if the bullets were whizzing by our ears, I cannot compliment your guys' work enough! oh and also in a scene with a big explosion we could actually feel the air being moved by the subwoofer from over 15 feet away! insane. love it love it love it.

I'm a happy man!

Thank you,

RATING

First and foremost, the Speedwoofer is an outstanding sub, which you already know. The manual included is exceptional and has been invaluable in many ways. Outstanding job there!! I initially ran some scans with the Velodyne unit just for curiosity sake and found excellent results in my room. Since then I have been running the Speedwoofer with the Velodyne out of the system entirely. With minimum placement changes and careful volume adjustments I obtained excellent results. In trying to refine things a bit I decided to try changing the crossover from 80HZ to 100HZ. Quite a revelation! I now have the best subwoofer performance I have ever experienced in my system.

In closing I could never recommend the inclusion of any type equalization in your product. You have the best configuration and the remote capability is a major plus.

This is plenty of subwoofer for even a 20 by 30 room. What sets this one apart is the speed. For acoustic music, the bass just fits right in as in real life. There is no impression of there being a subwoofer. For electronica it almost sounds wrong. The big bass does not ooze and boom out after the beat as it does in every good dance club. Instead it is right there fast, crisp, and clean. I have never heard a subwoofer as fast and clear as this one. It is clearly more musical than my previous $2000, 1000W model.

RATING

This subwoofer is very accurately named as it delivers a very quick and tight response from deep bass all the way thru mid-bass. In my home theater set up I have had to turn down the bass spl compared to my previous sub as the punchiness delivered shakes the furniture too much. Because of that I now hear all kinds of mid-bass that was not present before.

Room Acoustics

Horrible! My family room is BIG. 35 feet long by 26 feet wide with 15 foot ceilings and hard wood floors. We do have some strategically placed rugs but nothing else to dampen reflection other than fairly thick curtains across way to many windows.

Listening Preferences

I prefer VERY high resolution sound that is open and airy with a lot of detail and have a very short attention span for media that is not reference quality and that’s a shame because most of my original CD collection has been or is in this lesser quality category. When possible I replace my older CDs with re-masters and SACD versions if they become available. I never thought I would see myself buying the same CD over and over as the quality improved but this is the world we ( I ) live in. I have some CDs that I have purchased three or four times. If the recording is high quality enough, I can listen to anything other than RAP. I repeat. I don’t do RAP. From jazz to female vocalist to Elton John, Marillion, Def Leppard, Daughtry, Pink Floyd and Zeppelin etc…., I can enjoy most anything given an excellent recording quality. I just recently purchased the new Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina CDs, both American Idol finalist and was very pleased with the recording quality of these two CDs. I guess you could say that I listen to most anything from the 70s, 80s and early 90s with a little of the 60s thrown in.

CG4 speakers

These speakers replaced my large set of floor standing tower speakers that I had been using for rear channels for about 10 years. I was concerned that mounting them on the wall using the RSL wall mounts would not allow the speaker to be isolated enough as my previous floor speakers were mounted on carbon fiber cones and 2†granite slabs. We have a low back couch so the floor standing speakers had plenty of distance from the back of couch and plenty of height as not to get blocked too much by the couch. At initial listening I didn’t feel like the speakers had the kind of punch I was expecting but after about 40 hours they really woke up and I was off to the races. In all honesty it turned out to be a combination of break-in and my initial media selections didn’t do the rears justice.

As the CG4s continued to break-in, it was apparent how fast, precise and controlled these little speakers are. Bass level was also a pleasant surprise given the speakers size. I didn’t feel like I had lost anything compared to the much bigger Phase Tech 8.5s I replaced. In fact, I gained some control and resolution. Amazing!!! Keep in mind each of CG4s is connected to a 250w@ 8 Ohms monoblock that is capable of easily doubling its output given a 4 Ohm load. Now remember these are being used as surround speakers and don’t get the full force of information that the front channels get. This was an initial concern because from time to time we crank the music very loud. We also enjoy high resolution sound at lower volumes as well. Another concern I had was the tonal balance between the CG4s and my Thiel’s up front. Again after about 40 hours they sounded like they belonged. After everything settled in I must stay that these speakers are impressive. They sound better than the much larger speakers they replaced and having them mounted on the wall gets them up and out of the way. In a standard sized listing room with decent dampening, I would have no problem building my system with 7 of these impressive little speakers.

Speed Woofer 10

I had high expectations from this sub right from the beginning. In fact I feared I might need two of them. Break-in period was similar to the CG4 as I noticed a big difference after about 40 hours. I placed the sub in the front firing line to the inside right and back of the left CS7. The sub has clear firing room and a lot of air to breath if needed. The sub is connected to my Arcam AV8 via LFE out. From the beginning I noticed that this is one deceivingly powerful sub and just like the CG4 I can’t get over how fast, precise and controlled this sub is and how it handled my big room with no problem with plenty of headroom to spare. Most importantly after about 40 hours it completely disappeared and blended better than my other old M&K ever did. I am indeed very impressed with this sub-woofer. The included remote control is also more valuable than I thought it would be, particularly when you are tweaking and breaking the sub in. it’s very nice to sit in your listening position and be able to adjust the sub without getting up. This is not a laziness thing, but it helps to keep you in the moment of the music for better tuning. There is however a secret sauce for this sub. After 50 hours I purchased another PS Audio AC 10 power cord and all I can say is WOW! This took the sub to a whole new level. Not only did it disappear even more but there seemed to be more detail and a sense that it was doing it all effortlessly. I think the included power cord might be holding this wonderful sub back a bit.

Overall I’m very impressed and pleased with the performance of my new RSL speakers. They have taken my listening experience to a new level of enjoyment and that’s not an easy task with me. Serious music listening or home theater you can’t go wrong with these speakers.

The purchasing experience was nothing short of 5 stars!!! Howard took plenty of time with me on the phone and made it a point to understand my system before the sale. EXCELLENT!!!!

I have owned many high end subs over the years, and stumbling on the RSL Sub was the best thing that ever happened! I have almost given up on trying to match subs with just about any speaker as

getting it to blend was always difficult to get right. Now on my quest to find a sub to go with my Maggie 1.7 s I bought and sold two other subwoofers I recently purchased with no real luck in blending with the 1.7.s I could always tell there was a sub in the mix muddying up the sound.

When I got the RSL sub I was shocked at how well it blended with the 1.7 s. I almost thought something was wrong with it because it was not booming & drawing attention to itself like my other subs. But I soon realized it was just so fast, I could not hear it mucking up the sound. Just vibrant, fast & articulate sound. Exactly what the Maggies needed!

Now, I have since sold the Maggies and bought the ultimate test for the sub...A pair of Martin Logan CLS. The original full electrostat speaker, and I am happy to say the sub again is a perfect match. If it had not been (with either speaker) believe me I would have sent it back since RSL offers a no brainer money back guarantee.

A buddy of mine always tries to convince me to keep a good sub around as I go through speakers, but I always ended

up selling them simply because I was not happy enough with them to keep em.

Well I passed my 30 day return, and the only thing RSL will get from me is probably a check for another Speedwoofer. But, I am not sure I will need another one as one is enough. This is a fantastic sub, and even though it is a "music first" sub, it does a great job on movies as well. A true Keeper!!!

Also, I do not wish to mention the other sub brands I have owned, but every one of them was more expensive than the RSL. They all ranged between $995-$3500.

I cannot adequately express how happy I am with the Speedwoofer 10. It has brought my Vandersteen speakers to life! The imaging is markedly improved as is the clarity of the instruments. The low tones are rich and appear to emanate from the Vandersteen speakers, not from the Speedwoofer. I don t see any need now to purchase a more expensive amplifier, so you could say purchasing the Speedwoofer has saved me money. Thank you for making a great audio product that people with a regular income can afford.

In the past I've never used a sub in my studio for mixing, as I usually get an inaccurate bass transmission when I take the product out of my studio, but it s nice to have the extra bottom when needed. I find it easy and accurate to build my stereo image while mixing and it gives me a very natural listening environment - not over hyped and I m able to do long hours without ear fatigue. I would also like to add that the remote control is very convenient.

The CG4 speakers (two front, two surround), one CG24 (center) and the Speedwoofer 10 are all worthy of five star ratings. Teamed with an Onkyo TX-NR708 receiver and a Blu-ray disc player, the RSL speakers provide an amazing sound experience for movies, television, and all types of music.

RATING

I’ve been listening to, and evaluating the RSL CG4 and RSL Speedwoofer 10 combination for just over a month now. I should mention to start with, that I prefer listening in a nearfield speaker positioning set-up, with as many feet as possible and practical, between the speakers and the wall behind them. I ve found that the RSL monitors work especially well with this type of arrangement, revealing an amazingly wide, (and by wide, I mean often several feet outside of each monitors position), and seemingly effortless reproduction of height, and depth, to the back wall. Having said that, one of my preferred tests of how how specifically MUSICAL a speaker s reproduction can be is by playing an early stereo recording. For this, I used jazz saxophonist Art Pepper s 1957 album "Art Pepper Meets the Rhythm Section". This recording has sax imaged at hard left, and piano, bass and drums at hard right, with very little depth imaging. With eyes closed, I had no sense that I was listening to music emanating at left and right speaker face, although that is pretty much what this recording requires the speakers to do. The saxophone sounded open and completely free of coloration, and the other instruments, despite being all crammed together at far right, seemed to float effortlessly, and separately, in space. The Speedwoofer 10 was very impressive here, providing convincing, full bass on the right channel, with no sense of separation between sub and monitors, despite the fact that I have the sub positioned 6 1/2 feet behind the CG4 s. BTW, the sub s remote adjustable volume control became instantly addictive with me, and essential.

In the last 30 years I’ve owned long list of speakers, including the various versions of the Vandersteen 2c s, Tannoy DMT 12 monitors, Magnepan MMG, MG12 and 1.6 s, and many others. I can honestly say that the CG4, Speedwoofer 10 combination is giving me the most satisfying musical reproduction I ve yet experienced in my home listening situation. Would I rather have the "megabuck" speaker pair and amp combination of my choice, in the huge room of my choice? --Of course, but, like most of us, I live within a real world budget. At under $1500 for the CG4 monitors and subwoofer, I haven t heard anything else available right now at anywhere near the price range that I d rather listen to. --Overall, I’d give the CG4s and Speedwoofer 10 a 4 1/2 star rating, and 5 stars in its price range.

Room 15x9x21, probably considered on the "Bright" side. I never had an issue with the Def Tech's when listening to music, and with nothing to compare to. About 6 years ago my car was a Passat CC with a killer Dynaudio system. It lifted the proverbial "veil" off the music - crystal clear sound compared to the Def Tech's. because of that I would audition higher end systems with an eye to one day upgrading. I will run MACC room correction after 40 hours (using an old MACC setting now and maybe a reason for the center setting?) The shipping and packaging was as promised; excellent.

Thank you,

Once again, amazing sound that fills the room but doesn t take it over. The best way I can explain it is that it not only sounds right, it feels right. You get lost in the sound because its not constantly fighting for you attention like other subwoofers.

This is my go to player for sure BAR NONE! OPPO BDP-95 – Multi-channel SACD, DVD-AUDIO, DTS music, Blu-ray and DVD music concerts. Room Acoustics Horrible! My family room is BIG. 35 feet long by 26 feet wide with 15 foot ceilings and hard wood floors. We do have some strategically placed rugs but nothing else to dampen reflection other than fairly thick curtains across way to many windows. Listening Preferences I prefer VERY high resolution sound that is open and airy with a lot of detail and have a very short attention span for media that is not reference quality and that’s a shame because most of my original CD collection has been or is in this lesser quality category. CG4 speakers These speakers replaced my large set of floor standing tower speakers that I had been using for rear channels for about 10 years. Speed Woofer 10 I had high expectations from this sub right from the beginning.

I have almost given up on trying to match subs with just about any speaker as getting it to blend was always difficult to get right. A buddy of mine always tries to convince me to keep a good sub around as I go through speakers, but I always ended up selling them simply because I was not happy enough with them to keep em.
